BAUHAUS NOW: A CENTURY OF CITIES
Chris Murray and Charles Landry are hosting a day long programme, ‘Bauhaus Now’, as part of the Festival of the Future City in Bristol, and our event will happen on 17th October 2019. This is currently the only major event planned in the UK for the centenary of the founding of the Bauhaus in the Weimar Republic in 1919, a radically different institution that has influenced cities in this and many other countries so significantly.
Our event will celebrate that, and reinvent some of the principles of the Bauhaus for our age, asking, what would the Bauhaus be doing now if it had not been closed down by the Nazis, or if recreated for todays world, to improve cities and the lives of so many that live in them? In doing so we aim to reveal new solutions and ideas.
This idea emerged from our exploration of multi-disciplinary approaches to rethinking the city, including artists, designers and engineers, but also psychologists, anthropologists, philosophers, historians, public sector workers and more. Confirmed speakers for the day include:

Session Two: Creating Bauhaus 2019
Where was Bauhaus thinking headed when it closed down, what could and should it be doing for cities if it was recreated now?
Session Three: Workshops; How Bauhaus can help cities now
Using real-time examples, applying the principles of the Bauhaus reimagined, to some specific 2019 urban challenges through multidisciplinary workshops involving the audience.
